President Donald Trump came to the defense of Fox News host Bill O'Reilly Wednesday, saying "he is a good person" who did not sexually harass women in the workplace — despite a report that claims he may have done just that.
"I think he's a person I know well — he is a good person," Trump told The New York Times in an Oval Office interview.
The Times reported last week that O'Reilly and Fox News have paid around $13 million to five women who complained that O'Reilly either verbally or sexually harassed them.
Trump told the Times Wednesday that settling with the women, which O'Reilly said was to keep his family from having to deal with the embarrassment of what he called false allegations, was a mistake.
"Personally, I think he shouldn't have settled," Trump said. "Because you should have taken it all the way. I don't think Bill did anything wrong."
It was reported Tuesday that several companies whose ads run during the nightly "O'Reilly Factor" have suspended their sponsorship of the show because of the allegations against the host.
