President Donald Trump criticized Democrats in a tweet on Wednesday for failing to address the issue of illegal border crossings.
"Democrats in Congress must return from their vacations and change the Immigration Laws, or the Border, despite the great job being done by Border Patrol, will only get worse," Trump wrote, adding that "Big sections of Wall now being built!"
The president has emphasized this point repeatedly during his administration, with this current criticism coming as both the House and Senate are in recess for two weeks for Easter, The Hill reported.
The president's comments come as he has dealt with reports this week that he would pardon U.S. Customs and Border Protection chief Kevin McAleenan if he ever went to jail for denying entry to migrants,” according to CNN.
Democrats have demanded information on the discussions between the two men, saying that such an offer is a violation of the president's authority.
McAleenan has publicly stated recently that the Trump administration is nearing a "breaking point" regarding the number of migrants illegally crossing the southern border.
The president’s tweet also comes a day after Attorney General William Barr ruled that asylum-seekers who are successful in showing a "credible fear" and are then sent to full deportation proceedings are not eligible to be released on bond, The Hill reported.
