President-elect Donald Trump has chosen to retain U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara, the prosecutor confirmed after their Wednesday meeting at Trump Tower in New York, Politico reported.
"We had a good meeting," Bharara told reporters. "I agreed to stay on. I have already spoken to Senator Sessions, who is as you know the nominee to be the attorney general. He also asked that I stay on, and so I expect that I will be continuing to work at the southern district."
Bharara was appointed by President Obama in 2009 as lead prosecutor of the southern district in Manhattan.
Bharara has earned a high profile for getting convictions of corruption cases and white collar crimes.
