President Donald Trump, in a tweet targeting the "disgusting Fake News," complained that special counsel Robert Mueller is telling witnesses to lie so they can get a break from prosecution.

"While the disgusting Fake News is doing everything within their power not to report it that way, at least 3 major players are intimating that the Angry Mueller Gang of Dems is viciously telling witnesses to lie about facts & they will get relief," Trump tweeted.

"This is our Joseph McCarthy Era!"

Trump did not specify who he was speaking about, but on Tuesday, conservative writer Jerome -- Corsi, a former Washington bureau chief for Infowars, and an associate of Trump confidant Roger Stone, told Fox News' Tucker Carlson that he gave special counsel Robert Mueller's investigators "everything they wanted," but now faces possible felony charges after getting caught in their "perjury trap."

He also claimed that he is being accused of lying after failing to remember forwarding an email from Stone to a London connection concerning a pending WikiLeaks release of emails from the account of Hillary Clinton's former campaign manager, John Podesta.

In addition, federal prosecutors on Monday said Trump's former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, violated his plea agreement and lied to investigators after agreeing to cooperate in Mueller's investigation.

Through his plea agreement, Manafort was required to “fully, truthfully, completely, and forthrightly” cooperate with the U.S. government, but on Monday, prosecutors said he violated the pact and asked a judge to sentence him.
