President Donald Trump blamed the partial government shutdown on Democrats in a tweet he sent out on Monday morning.
"I’ve been waiting all weekend,” the president wrote. “Democrats must get to work now. Border must be secured!"
"Nancy and Cryin’ Chuck can end the Shutdown in 15 minutes,” Trump said in a second tweet. “At this point it has become their, and the Democrats, fault!"
The president also sent out a third message on Twitter referring to a Fox @ Friends report that Democrats were in Puerto Rico while Trump stayed at the White House.
Over the weekend, the shutdown set the record for the longest one in the history of the United States, eclipsing the previous mark of 21 days that occurred during the Clinton administration, according to The Hill.
There have been few indications that the impasse is nearing a conclusion, as Trump continues to demand that legislation to fund the government include more than $5 billion for his long-promised border wall, which the Democrats have refused to approve.
