A commercial for a teddy bear made to resemble President Donald Trump that appeared on Fox News is real and not a parody or fake, as some had questioned.
"Trumpy Bear" is a teddy bear with Trump's distinctive hairstyle, a large red tie, and white cuffs, made by Exceptional Products Inc., owned by Dallas businessman Elliott Brackett. The ad, which aired on Fox News last week, begins by warning "a storm is coming," and says, "you cannot defeat the storm," before the announcer says, "I am the storm," and shows the stuffed animal, which is made in China and costs two payments of $19.95.
"I think it's quite surprising how people can react so violently to an inanimate object," Brackett told the Dallas Business Journal.
"We don't think we're in politics right now," he said. "We're selling a teddy bear. We're not a political action committee."
"We've had people that love him and hate him get offended," Brackett continued. "But that's the beauty of the commercial. The commercial doesn't lean either way, and it walks the fenceline pretty well I think."
He added the company "attempted to make it here in the United States, but we couldn't get it to where we could sell it for anything under $150."
Brackett did not tell the Dallas Business Journal how many Trumpy Bears his company has sold.
