A lawsuit like Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., announced against Twitter on Monday night is long overdue, because it is about time we "hold these social media companies' feet to the fire," according former GOP Gov. Mike Huckabee, who called Twitter a "political arm" or the Democratic Party.
"I'm so proud of the congressman," Huckabee told Fox News' "America's Newsroom." "He's doing exactly what someone has needed to do for a long time, and that's hold these social media companies' feet to the fire."
Nunes, claiming a social media bias against and defamation against conservative viewpoints, is suing Twitter for $250 million, as "part of the continuing Russia investigation" for election meddling, the former House Intelligence Committee chairman told "Hannity" on Monday night.
"It's important to know who is behind who is putting those fake news stories out," Rep. Nunes told host Sean Hannity.
Huckabee chimed in with an agreement of unchecked defamation from Twitter's users, calling Twitter a "public utility" and a "political arm" against conservatives – meddling in elections as Democrats claimed President Donald Trump benefited from in the 2016 presidential election.
"If they use the power of their utility to change the votes of people, to actually become a political arm, don't they have to file political expenditure requirements?" Huckabee told anchor Sandra Smith. "I mean aren't they going to have to do that? Because if they are playing politics, they've got to live by the rules of politics, and that is you have to disclose your contributions.
"They are in essence a contributing force to the Democratic Party, and a contributing force against Republicans. So, if they're going to do that, then either own up to it and play big boy ball, which means you file all the reports or else let them be governed by the government.
"Which, most of us don't think we want the government involved, what we want is a company with integrity, and they don't have it right now. They just don't."
