R. Bowen Loftin announced late Monday that he'll step down as chancellor of the University of Missouri at Columbia on Jan. 1,
The Kansas City Star reports.
His announcement follows President Tim Wolfe's announcement earlier in the day that he was stepping down after protests over his handling of racial tensions on campus rocked the school.

Loftin gave notice after at least nine deans reportedly called for his firing.
