The United States, Mexico and Canada have committed to expand use of the U.S. ATF firearms tracing database to better investigate illicit arms trafficking across North America, the White House said in a joint statement on Thursday.

Following a trilateral security meeting, the countries also agreed to implement a common drug analysis protocol to better understand regional trends and to embed Mexicans alongside Canadian personnel at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection National Targeting Center, the statement said.
