A majority of voters think Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton lied about not having classified information on the private email server she used while serving as secretary of state, a Fox News poll shows.

The survey, released Friday finds 58 percent of respondents believe Clinton "knowingly lied" when she claimed there was no classified data in emails on her private server.

Thirty-three percent thinks there's "another explanation" for how classified material wound up on her private server, the poll finds.

Also, the survey shows 54 percent of respondents think the former secretary of state put national security at risk by using her private email account during her stint at the State Department; 37 percent disagreed.

In other poll findings:
  • 27 percent of Democrats think Clinton lied, while 29 percent say her actions put the country in danger.
  • 67 percent of Independents say Clinton lied; only 23 percent think there's another explanation for national secrets showing up on her private server.
  • 87 percent of Republicans say Clinton lied; 81 percent think she put the nation's security at risk.
The margin of error is plus or minus 3 percentage points on the question of whether Clinton lied; the margin was 4 percentage points on the question about whether she put the nation's security at risk.

The survey comes as the Clinton presidential campaign has tried to contain the damage from the escalating email scandal, and a corresponding slide in her polling numbers.
