Sebastian Gorka, deputy assistant to President Donald Trump, is reported to be leaving the White House to accept a new position, said The Hill on Sunday.
CNN also reported it had confirmed the story with White House sources.
Gorka would be taking an "appointment to a federal agency" where he will examine the "war of ideas" on how to counter radical Islamic terrorism, sources told the Washington Examiner on Sunday. The official said the position would not be at the State Department.
The news follows questions concerning Gorka's security clearance status. He has served as a national security adviser and on the Strategic Initiatives Group (SIG). The SIG position was meant to be temporary, The Washington Examiner wrote.
Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., wrote a letter to President Donald Trump in March over concerns that had appeared in American Jewish news outlet The Forward connecting Gorka to a far-right group in Hungary. Nadler called for the release of Gorka's immigration paperwork for review by the House Judiciary Committee.
The Forward on Thursday said Gorka was a formal member of the far-right group Historical Vitézi Rend. The State Department listed its predecessor Vitézi Rend as under Nazi direction, The Hill wrote.
A spokesman for the National Security Council told the Washington Examiner he did not "personally know" Gorka's plans.
