Whoopi Goldberg repeatedly cut off Alan Dershowitz on “The View” as he tried to explain why President Donald Trump should not be removed from office.
Dershowitz, a Harvard Law professor emeritus, had defended the president during the Senate’s impeachment trial. He appeared on the ABC show on Wednesday.
“I’m not arguing about witnesses,” Dershowitz said. “What I’m saying is, the charge of obstruction of Congress and abuse of power are not within the constitutional terms high crimes and misdemeanors.”
Co-host Joy Behar claimed no other legal scholars agreed with his interpretation of the Constitution.
Dershowitz replied: “Let me be very clear about that. In 1867, the dean of the Columbia Law School…”
Goldberg cut him off saying: Wait, wait, wait. “In 1492, Columbus sailed the seas . . . but listen, I need to move on.”
Dershowitz shot back: “You’re not going to get me to move on until I make this point.”
But Goldberg cut him off against saying: “Here’s the thing, Alan, you’re not going to get any time because you’ve got four people trying to ask you questions. So, I’m asking you to move faster.”
However, Dershowitz noted some legal scholars were politically motivated in their interpretation of the Constitution. “If Hillary Clinton were being impeached, they’d all be on my side,” he said
Goldberg then said: “I’m moving you on or I’m cutting you off – one or the other is going to happen. I don’t want to make this contentious, but we only have several minutes.”
