The Justice Department fired back at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., after she claimed Attorney General William Barr committed a crime by lying to Congress, The Hill is reporting.
"Speaker Pelosi's baseless attack on the Attorney General is reckless, irresponsible, and false," Justice Department spokeswoman Kerri Kupec said.
In an apparent reference to Barr's congressional testimony last month, Pelosi said he "was not telling the truth to the Congress of the United States – that's a crime."
Barr had said in April he did not know whether special counsel Robert Mueller agreed with his conclusions about the Russia investigation. However, it has since been learned Mueller had written Barr on March 27 complaining there was public confusion after the attorney general portrayed his findings.
