Just over a half of voters agree with President Donald Trump's long-shared condemnation of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation as a political witch hunt, according to the latest USA Today/Suffolk University Poll on Monday.

A total of 503 registered voters among 1,000 polled (50.3 percent) replied "yes" to the survey question: "President Trump has called the special counsel's investigation a 'witch hunt' and said he's been subjected to more investigations than previous presidents because of politics. Do you agree?"

A total of 468 (46.8 percent) replied "No," while 27 were undecided (2.7 percent) and two refused to answer (0.2 percent).

The results were hailed by President Trump via tweet Monday:

"Wow! A Suffolk/USA Today Poll, just out, states, '50 percent of Americans AGREE that Robert Mueller's investigation is a Witch Hunt.' @MSNBC  Very few think it is legit! We will soon find out?"

President Trump has hammered at the credibility of Mueller and his team since their appointment and public confidence has waned of late, notably as the anticipated conclusion and delivery of the report to Attorney General William Barr draws near.

Also notable in the poll results, support for the House to seriously consider impeaching President Trump has dropped 10 percentage points since October to just 28 percent, according to the report.

Despite the positive news for the president's status, 52 percent still say they have little or no trust in the presidential denials that his 2016 campaign worked with Russia to get him elected, the poll revealed.

The Suffolk University survey of 1,000 registered voters was conducted between March 13-March 17 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
