A Fairfax County high school known for its push for "equity" sent parents a letter informing them that college prep courses would only be offered to Black and Hispanic students.
The Virginia school district has been under investigation by the state Attorney General after Thomas Jefferson High School withheld merit awards from its students in pursuit of "equity."
Attorney General Jason Miyares announced the probe in January, saying, "Racism race-based government decision making in any form is wrong and unlawful under Virginia's Human Rights Act."
"Students at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology are amongst the brightest in the nation, yet some have been punished in the name of 'equity," he said in the release.
Cooper Middle School, also in the district, is under fire for a similar move after parents labeled the notices discriminatory, reported the Daily Mail.
The Feb. 21 letter offers college prep lessons to "Students who are the first in their family to attend college in the U.S.," "Black or African American students," "Hispanic students, of one or more race," "Students with disabilities," "English learners," and "Economically disadvantaged students."
Notably absent are whites and Asians.
Progressives claim these equitable initiatives are intended to assist disadvantaged youth who disproportionately are Black and Hispanic. While opponents say they do not, but artificially inflate outcomes and lower general standards.
The district also maintains that referring to "a typical CPP student" on its webpage as Black and Hispanic is not discriminatory because it has never explicitly forbidden either, according to the Daily Mail.
Author of Woke Army, Asra Nomani, tweeted in response to the letter saying it "promotes a college prep program with race-based admissions, excluding Asians + whites. A judge already ruled FCPS violated US Constitution in new anti-Asian admissions."
She pointed to the substantial benefits included within the program: academic counseling, college experience, and advice on applications.
The Daily Mail reported that Thomas Jefferson issued a clarifying statement, and Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin, who has taken active measures against "woke" politicization in the classroom, initiated a formal probe.
