A wolf-dog hybrid housed in a Florida sanctuary has gained quite the following, reports The Miami Herald.
“Yuki The Giant Wolfdog” was rescued by Shy Wolf Sanctuary in Naples in 2008 after his owner couldn’t care for him anymore due to health issues.
He’s 87.5 percent gray wolf, 8.6 percent Siberian Husky and 3.9 percent German Shephard, according to the sanctuary.
The International Wolf Center says its "rare" that hybrids can come about naturally, as "the territorial nature of wolves leads them to protect their home ranges from intruding canines such as dogs, coyotes and other wolves.”
Yuki gained attention recently after a sanctuary volunteer posted photos of him to her Instagram account. Many people have reached out to the sanctuary about adopting Yuki, but he has blood cancer and is not available for adoption. Instead, they ask for donations to help with vet bills.
Yuki, 12, weighs about 120 pounds.
