Rep. Yvette Clarke, D-N.Y. said it is important to hold Amazon accountable for its New York office expansion, Axios is reporting.

Clarke specifically cited the tax breaks extended to Amazon are designed to “have a multiplier effect that will bring even more into the economy.”  And she said it is up to Amazon for bringing that to bear.

Axios noted the deal has been the subject of criticism from New York policymakers, who claim the billions in tax breaks Amazon will get aren’t warranted.

Howard Zemsky, head of New York’s main economic development agency, has defended bringing one of Amazon’s second headquarters to Queens, saying the project is “unprecedented” in state history in terms of jobs it could create and tax revenue it could generate.
