Adrian Huizenga, son of Michigan Republican Rep. Bill Huizenga, told Newsmax on Monday that he "felt safe" attending a college in Israel during the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attacks.
"I was studying biblical history and geography in Jerusalem, and I woke up that Saturday morning with the sirens going off and I heard a boom which was from the Iron Dome," Huizenga said during "Wake Up America." "From there it was this week of seeing what this war from Hamas, and I felt very safe at the school, but it was constantly [learning] what's going on, and curfews.
"I felt safe then, but was concerned about what it was going to look like tomorrow and how long this was going to continue with airports shut down."
Thankfully for Adrian, Florida Republican Rep. Cory Mills, an Iraq veteran, flew to Israel in the wake of the attacks to help get American citizens out of the country, the New York Post reported Oct. 12.
"I was very thankful for Congressman Mills' team who then contacted me and helped me get out within 24 hours of contacting me," Adrian said. "That was really great because I'm home now, and I feel safe and am really thankful for them."
Mills told the publication that he decided to go to Israel when he saw no efforts by the administration of President Joe Biden to remove U.S. citizens after the brutal attacks that claimed the lives of more than 1,300 Israelis and others and saw the terrorists kidnap around 200 people to be used as hostages in Gaza.
"I went in and was very thankful to be able to get — for the second time, by the way, I'll just add — helping the Biden administration, who has failed to do their job," the news outlet reported Mills saying. "[The] first time I did it was in 2021 where I conducted the very first successful rescue of Americans [from Afghanistan]. But here it is, the second time doing the Biden administration's work because they had no plan."
Adrian's father said he was also working as a member of Congress to get U.S. citizens out of Israel due to the failures of the Biden administration.
"I've got a job as a member of Congress where this unfortunately is a pattern that has repeated itself, Afghanistan, think of that," Bill Huizenga said. "We start having constituents calling in a panic asking, 'How do I get out? I've got a loved one there. I've got grandkids there. We've got parents that are there on a trip' or whatever it might be. So, on one track, I've got myself and my staff working on helping other constituents, and then I've got my own constituents that I'm worried about [my son] and taking a sort of a measure of what was going on."
