Alan Dershowitz on $400M Payment to Iran: 'We Shouldn't Be Doing That'

Alan Dershowitz told Newsmax TV on Friday that President Barack Obama had "absolutely" no way of justifying the $400 million cash payment to Tehran in return for four American hostages — especially since a video surfaced this week in Iranian media showing an unmarked plane and a pallet of cash.

"The fact that it was done secretly," the Harvard Law School professor emeritus told "Newsmax Prime" host J.D. Hayworth. "The fact that we allowed Iran to now, essentially, extort us by asking to have it done in secret and then announcing it in public — putting the United States in a horribly embarrassing situation.

"It appears as if are rewarding kidnapping.

"If we gave the Iranians anything they wouldn't otherwise have gotten earlier than they would've otherwise gotten it — even if it was their own money, which is what they claim — you're still rewarding terrorism.

"You're giving them something they wouldn't have gotten had they not engaged in the unlawful terroristic act of keeping our sailors hostage and bargaining for their freedom," Dershowitz said.

"We shouldn't be doing that."
