Alan Dershowitz tells Newsmax TV that Donald Trump should release his tax returns immediately so Americans can see if the GOP presidential candidate has any dubious financial ties to Russia and its iron-fisted leader Vladimir Putin.
"I'm much more worried about Trump being in collusion with the Russians," the renowned civil-rights attorney and Harvard Law professor emeritus, said Wednesday to J.D. Hayworth on Newsmax's "America Talks Live."
"I want Trump to give us his tax returns. I want to find out how much of his debt is owed by Russian oligarchs. I want to find out why he's playing footsy with the Russians.
"I want to find out why he encouraged [fugitive Edward] Snowden and others to hack into our programs from Russia."
Trump has been under fire for what some believe is his cozy relationship with Putin, whose leadership he has complimented in recent months. And last July, he was criticized for calling on Russia to try to hack and publish some of Hillary Clinton's emails.
The billionaire real-estate tycoon's campaign was also dogged by the murky financial ties his former campaign manager Paul Manafort had with Russia — which reportedly forced to resign.
All of which makes Dershowitz, author of "Electile Dysfunction: A Guide for Unaroused Voters," leery of Trump's continual refusal to release his tax returns as has been the tradition of most U.S. presidential candidates.
"I want to find out about his relationship with Russia because it's very strange for a right-wing Republican to be so friendly with Putin. You might not be surprised if a Democrat does that," Dershowitz told Hayworth.
"Putin has become more tyrannical. He took over in Crimea and he's doing other terrible things around the world. I'm very worried about the lack of transparency about the relationship between Trump and Putin."
