Rep. Clyde to Newsmax: Fani Willis' Use of Federal Funds Needs to be Investigated

By    |   Friday, 12 January 2024 05:43 PM EST

Rep. Andrew Clyde, R-Ga., expressed concerns Friday on Newsmax's "The Chris Salcedo Show," stating, "You know, it also calls into question the use of federal funds. I mean, it's a fact that Fani Willis, just in FY [fiscal year] 2022 alone, received $3.8 million of federal money. So how is that money now being used?"

Fani T. Willis, the district attorney of Fulton County, Georgia, faced allegations this week of engaging in a romantic relationship with the chief prosecutor she appointed for the Trump alleged election interference case. This development has energized Republicans and prompted inquiries into her behavior and decision-making. The prosecutor in question, Nathan Wade, has accrued legal fees exceeding $650,000, per The New York Times.

"I think you've got a serious conflict of interest here. I think you have a potential for fraud here. Actually, even some of the billing statements of Mr. Wade show potential for fraud and false statements, so there is a lot to be investigated," Clyde said.

A member of the House Freedom Caucus, he added, "Here, you know, being on the Appropriations Committee and being literally on the committee that provides the appropriated money to these district attorneys, it's a very, very serious thing to look at, and I think she's across the line here, but we need to find out."

Clyde added, "We need to investigate this, and I encourage [Georgia Attorney General] Chris Carr and our Governor to support the investigation of Fani Willis."
