Former federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy says President Barack Obama, Attorney General Eric Holder — and now New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio — are fanning the flames of racial discontent in America.
"If you come out of the box first thing as attorney general and tell the American people they're cowards on the matter of race and continue to beat that drum … particularly after this past weekend," McCarthy said Monday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on
Newsmax TV.
"When you think about the New York City Police Department, which is not only the best police department in the world, but … very representative of the very diverse city that it represents and polices, it's just mind blowing and sad."

On Saturday, cop-hating gunman Ismaaiyl Brinsley executed Officers Rafael Ramos, 40, and Wenjian Liu, 32, as they sat in their patrol car in Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn.
Brinsley, who later committed suicide, had earlier suggested on social media that he was avenging the deaths of Eric Garner and Michael Brow, both black, who were shot dead in separate incidents, by white police officers.
In the Garner case, a grand jury declined to indict the cop, who placed a fatal chokehold on the suspect being arrested for selling loose cigarettes. De Blasio enraged officers by saying he worried about his biracial son Dante's safety around cops.
McCarthy — who as assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, successfully prosecuted 11 terrorists in the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center — said the "divisive rhetoric" is "really ripping New York City apart."
"As a New Yorker, it's just heartbreaking to watch it, but their first impulse is always to play to the political base," he said.
"[President Barack] Obama himself has stoked [racial flames] along with Holder, along with [the Rev. Al] Sharpton, who they've made a, basically a consultant to the administration on matters of race, which means on matters of demagoguery … "
McCarthy, a columnist and senior fellow at National Review, is the author of
"Faithless Execution: Building the Political Case for Obama’s Impeachment," published by Encounter Books.
