Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who was sworn in Saturday, will be "mission-focused" and understands that the U.S. military has fallen behind China and other adversaries in recent years, Rep. Andy Biggs said on Newsmax Sunday.
"Pete understands we need to be stepping it up on hypersonics," the Arizona Republican told Newsmax's "Sunday Agenda." "We need to step it up on weaponized drones, cybersecurity, and cybertechnology."
A handful of Republicans voted against Hegseth's Senate confirmation, leading to Vice President J.D. Vance casting the deciding vote for him, but Biggs said he believes all of President Donald Trump's nominees will be confirmed.
"They deserve to be confirmed," he said. "These are great Americans. They're going to do a super job. But I'm especially excited for Pete because like I say, he's mission-focused and he's a serious person for this job. The entire Trump administration coming in is serious people who want to do a serious job, and they're ready to do it."
Meanwhile, Trump signed more than 300 executive orders in his first week of office, and Biggs said that's what happens when a leader is elected "who is prepared, who is competent and has surrounded himself with people who know what the mission is, and the mission is to accomplish the mandate."
Trump, he added, is "accomplishing these amazing things, everything from the border, the birthright citizenship issue, which has needed to go away for literally 75, 80 years. He's right there."
Trump has also already been strong on international policy, said Biggs, pointing to his recent statements to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
"You have these people who don't like Donald Trump, but they're looking now in their own countries, and they're excited to come to the U.S.," said the congressman. "That's why he's brought billions and billions of dollars worth of investment into the country already."
