Sharyl Attkisson: Anthony Weiner Must Have Known Something

(Newsmax TV)

Anthony Weiner, the estranged husband of top Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin, likely had relevant information about the contents of Clinton's private emails that were the subject of an FBI investigation, Emmy Award-winning journalist Sharyl Attkisson tells Newsmax TV.

"I have no inside information on that, but my commonsense leads me to believe [it]," Attkisson said Tuesday to Steve Malzberg on "America Talks Live," referring to a controversial reopening of the probe by FBI Director James Comey based on emails seized from Weiner's server.

"The FBI agents apparently said something they knew from their cursory investigations on what they found so far, or from something that Anthony Weiner may have told them.

"There's all kinds of possibilities, if there was relevant information there that was significant enough, if [FBI Director James] Comey had to measure what would happen if he didn't disclose something now and it were to come out after the election."

Weiner's emails have been part of a separate probe concerning allegations that he sent sexting messages to a 15-year-old girl. The reopening of the Clinton email probe based on Weiner's messages has prompted accusations that Comey could unfairly influence the outcome of the presidential election.

"Because [Comey] chose to go ahead and take a very drastic step and make this announcement before the election … he's calculated would have been worse if he had waited until afterwards and then it was known in retrospect what he had known prior to that," said Attkisson, host of "Full Measure with Sharyl Attkisson."

"So that indicates to me there's some evidence they believe [there is] something significant and I don't know what that is because to me if it's just more classified documents, well, they've already litigated that.

"If it proves Huma Abedin gave false information, well they've already litigated that too. A lot of false information was provided during the first investigation that they decided they didn't care about that. So I'm not sure what changes the equation in there — but there must be something they think that possibly could."

Attkisson is author of "Stonewalled: My Fight for Truth Against the Forces of Obstruction, Intimidation, and Harassment in Obama's Washington," published by Harper.
