Rep. Ashley Hinson, R-Iowa, told Newsmax on Friday that regardless of who wins Monday's Iowa caucuses that kick off the Republican primary schedule, Iowans are united about one thing: firing President Joe Biden in November.
"Certainly, there's a lot of momentum on the ground for President Trump here in Iowa, but we have a lot of people who are still undecided," Hinson told "American Agenda." "My campaign team was out at an event earlier this week when I was out in D.C., and they heard from some folks who were independents who are going to switch their voter registration on caucus day and come out to caucus.
"I think you will see Iowans again unite behind whoever our nominee is coming out of Monday. Everybody is going to make their choice and we take that first-in-the-nation status very seriously.
"Iowa picks presidents, and then we're going to fire Joe Biden in November."
Hinson held three town halls in her home state in the first week of January and she said the issues concerning her constituents are immigration, energy independence, and federal overreach.
"You talk about the contrast in agendas, right?" she said. "We have a choice to make here on Monday that will be reflective of that contrast. The Democrat vision of open borders. Iowans are talking to me constantly about what's happening at our southern border. More than 300,000 illegal immigrant crossings in the month of December and people on the terror watch list.
"Iowans are talking to me about energy independence. Look at the contrast there between Republicans and Democrats and the vision that's presented there. Just freedom in general. Government overreach is on Iowans' minds every single day.
"We've got quite a few farmers in this great state who are feeding and fueling the world, so certainly they care about a supercharged EPA and a supercharged IRS. ... As they're asking these questions of these candidates, you're hearing them kind of have that similar tone."
Temperatures Monday are expected to be frigid, with reportedly a high of minus-3 and a low of minus-14, making it one of the coldest caucuses in recent memory.
"Iowans are certainly hearty people, and what I said is, once it's like 20 degrees, it's just cold," said Hinson, who represents Iowa's second congressional district, which covers the northeast part of the state. "But obviously I want Iowans to show up and caucus and do their civic duty on Monday, but only if it's safe to do so.
"The cold is the real concern on Monday, so we're certainly watching that. But I think Iowans are united in one thing, no matter what the weather is: It's time to fire Joe Biden and 2024 is the year where we're going to do that. I'm excited to see everybody come out and caucus on Monday."
