(Newsmax TV's "America Talks Live")

Bernard Kerik, the former Commissioner of the New York City Police Department, told Newsmax TV on Tuesday about his memory of Sept. 11, 2001, on the anniversary of the terror attack.

"Well, my day started in my office, I was actually in the bathroom taking a shower, just got finished exercising – and my chief of staff John Picciano came into the office and started banging on all the outside door, and when I went to the door I opened the door and said, 'What? What's the matter?' He said, 'a plane just hit Tower 1,'" Kerik, the author of the new bestseller, "The Grave Above the Grave," told Tuesday's "America Talks Live."

Kerik said, at that moment, "I didn't know what he was getting so excited about, you know, it's an accident. Yes, we have accidents all the time in the city. I thought it was a small plane, a Cessna or something like that, until I actually saw the damage to the building . . . I realized it was much worse than what I thought, so I got dressed."

The former commissioner said he "went down to go to the command center," but was "stopped by the police onsite, and a sergeant came up to my car told me that people were jumping from the building. and at first I didn't get it. I didn't understand what he was talking about, and I got out of the vehicle, and I watched . . . dozens of people jump from the top of Tower 1 to their death."
