Bernie Kerik to Newsmax TV: US Will Find Suspect in 72 Hours

(Newsmax TV's "America Talks Live")

By    |   Wednesday, 24 October 2018 03:51 PM EDT

Authorities should within 72 hours be able to find the suspect who attempted to mail explosive devices to several Democratic leaders, including former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Hillary Clinton, as well as to the offices of CNN, former New York City Police Commissioner Bernie Kerik told Newsmax TV's "America Talks Live" on Wednesday.

Kerik said the investigation will be much easier because none of the devices detonated, which means the authorities have the items in whole.

The former commissioner explained "You can't put this stuff together and then get it shipped and mailed without leaving a trace . . . a major trace if you're doing four different devices."

Even if the authorities do not have a suspect within the next 24 to 72 hours, Kerik said they should at least have a general direction for one.

When asked what he would advise the public, Kerik said there should be no speculation or attempt to lay blame, particularly of the political nature. He emphasized everyone should let the investigators do their job, because they will get to the bottom of it.

Kerik stressed it was a good sign the devices were discovered by the post office's regular screening process, an indication the procedure works.

He also said there will be lessons drawn at the end of the probe if there proves to be any additional security failures.
