Sen. Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, told Newsmax on Monday that he's "absolutely" concerned about the slate of pardons that President Joe Biden issued just before leaving office for members of his administration and the former members of the House panel that investigated the Capitol riot.
Just before leaving office on Monday, Biden issued pardons for Dr. Anthony Fauci, retired Gen. Mark Milley, and various members of the Jan. 6 panel in a bid to protect them from "revenge" by the Trump administration.
Moreno said during Newsmax's coverage of President Donald Trump's inauguration that Biden's last-minute pardons "absolutely … concerns me because what we have under Biden is lack of faith in our institutions."
He added, "People don't believe the Department of Justice is actually an organization that is blind justice. It's corrupt. And so Biden has made it worse. He makes Americans think that maybe our government isn't the government that we deserve. And that's what President Trump's going to fix."
When asked about whether Republicans will attempt to challenge the pardons, Moreno said, "Well, we don't know what the legal limitations are" on presidential pardon power.
The senator went on to say that Trump, using executive orders on his first day in office, is looking "to move forward with an agenda that's going to unleash American energy, that's going to secure our border, that ensures prosperity and security for all Americans. And we're going to make it clear that America is back. That's what happens at noon Eastern today."
Moreno said that Trump's priorities are "to undo the disaster that was the Biden administration. Objectively, the worst president in American history. So we have to do is now take a look at the executive orders and find out how we can put that into permanent legislation."
