Betsy McCaughey: If Ryan Calls AHCA Vote, He Must Have Enough Support

By    |   Wednesday, 22 March 2017 07:03 PM EDT

House Speaker Paul Ryan would not have scheduled a vote Thursday for the American Health Care Act if he did not have the votes to get it passed, health policy expert Betsy McCaughey told Newsmax TV.

During an appearance on "Newsmax Prime," McCaughey told host Miranda Khan she feels the bill will make it through the House vote.

"I do not believe that Paul Ryan would go ahead with this vote scheduled if he did not have the votes," said McCaughey, a former lieutenant governor of New York. "They will be there. There is no alternative to repeal except continuing with Obamacare, which is, as the president said, a disaster for the nation."

McCaughey noted the situation surrounding the AHCA, which Democrats and some Republicans oppose, reminds her of when former President George W. Bush was trying to get other healthcare legislation passed.

"When President George W. Bush got his Medicare drug benefit through, he was still twisting arms and cutting deals by telephone as the roll call was being called on that vote and something similar may happen tomorrow, but I predict that the president will get it through," she said.
