Vice President Joe Biden has left no doubt he will challenge Hillary Clinton for the 2016 Democratic nomination, Bill Kristol, founder and editor of The Weekly Standard, tells Newsmax TV.

Kristol said right after New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd wrote that Biden's dying son Beau told his dad to run, he knew Biden himself had planted the item and wrote his own column about it.

Kristol's theory was bailed out in a bombshell story published by Politico on Tuesday.

"If you just read the column, really, the suspect [for the leak] was Biden himself which was the case," Kristol said Tuesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show."

"He's [gone] through all the trouble of putting out that story and doing everything he's done for the last two months, the private meeting with Elizabeth Warren, and all that. It'd be kind of weird now not to run, obviously. He will."

Kristol said while Biden is "probably no one's wildly enthusiastic first choice" he is "acceptable" to most of the Democrats.

"He was Obama's loyal vice president. Obama has pretty high ratings [among] Democrats. Biden could be formidable for the Democrats," he said.
