Donald Trump should go against conventional wisdom and pick someone who has military experience for his vice presidential running mate, Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol tells
Newsmax TV.
Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, the former head of the Defense Intelligence Agency for President Barack Obama, might be a good choice, Kristol suggested Monday on "The Steve Malzberg Show."
"If someone like him were VP, I think that would be a smart pick by Trump," he said. "I think my friend [Arkansas Sen.] Tom Cotton, not sure if he would do it, [Iowa Sen.] Joni Ernst — a couple of young, post-9/11 vets in the Senate would be a smart pick."

Trump should not follow the party establishment advice and pick a "boring, centrist Republican like [Tennessee Sen.] Bob Corker or something," Kristol said. "I think you might as well double down on his core message, which is: 'I can protect you and these Democrats can't.'"
Kristol has been searching for a
third-party candidate to challenge Trump, but said he isn't sure if he would give in and support Trump if he picked Flynn as his running mate.
"I'm hopeful for a better choice, but let's see what happens," he said.
