Holt to Newsmax: Attacks on U.S. Forces Due to Lack of Deterrence

By    |   Tuesday, 26 December 2023 09:47 PM EST

The sharp increase in attacks against U.S. forces in the Middle East is due to a lack of deterrence, retired Brig. Gen. Blaine Holt told Newsmax on Tuesday.

"Deterrence is gone," Holt told "Rob Schmitt Tonight."

"It started with the money," Holt said. "We ramped up all their coffers, now they, with impunity, just hit our people."

Holt lamented that, even after 100 strikes against U.S. forces in the region, the president still has to authorize any retaliatory strikes.

"That's ridiculous," Holt said. "These commanders, down to the lieutenant colonel level, ought to be able to defend their people and their base."

"We're escalating this conflict to a very dangerous place, potentially widening it out beyond the regional level," Holt added.
