Ret. Brig. Gen. Blaine Holt told Newsmax on Thursday that the U.S. should investigate claims that the Navy was responsible for destroying the Nord Stream 2 pipeline in September.
Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Seymour Hersh claimed in a Substack post that an unnamed source confirmed that two U.S. Navy divers planted explosives and destroyed the natural gas pipeline, which the Pentagon has denied.
Holt said on "Wake Up America" when asked about the report: "Seymour Hersh is no hack reporter. He is actually very well respected over many years of journalism, so … we should have an investigation right now because if this is the truth, we've got to get to the end of that because this could put a dagger right into the heart of NATO unity.
"If that's what we chose as our strategic option, I will say that [Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs] Victoria Nuland's testimony in Congress two weeks ago contributes to this investigation."
