President Donald Trump's move to end former President Joe Biden's hold on sending 2,000-pound bombs to Israel is the "first step in repairing" relations between the U.S. and Israeli military, retired U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Blaine Holt said Sunday on Newsmax.
"Our commitment to Israel is foundational to the logistic support that we give them," said Holt on Newsmax's "Sunday Report." " I used to run logistics for the European theater. Israel was in my portfolio. This was right up there at the top of my priorities, and the Biden administration clearly interrupted that."
The previous administration said it was holding back the large weapons because it was worried about civilian casualties, but Holt said the "opposite" holds true.
"Those 2,000-pound bombs have what we call JDAMs [Joint Direct Attack Munitions] precision kits on them," said Holt. "Had they had them, not only would they be more effective and quicker to end the campaign, but they would have saved more lives because they could have targeted their enemies more effectively."
Holt also commented on the confirmation and swearing-in of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, saying he's expected to move quickly on revamping the military, and "he needs to."
"We've got to put the blade back on a mission focus in the Pentagon," said Holt. "So he's got many vectors, procurement reform, getting rid of DEI, and reinstalling a warrior ethos."
