Rep. Babin to Newsmax: 'Let's Hope We Get Our Act Together'

By    |   Monday, 23 October 2023 09:21 PM EDT

Rep. Brian Babin, R-Texas, told Newsmax on Monday that he hopes the House gets its act together and elects a new speaker so it can "get back to the work of the American people."

"I believe in our Republican Party platform, and I am very ready to unite behind a speaker who will advance the America First agenda that we were all elected to enact," Babin said during an appearance on Newsmax's "The Chris Salcedo Show."

"So, let's hope that we get our act together. I voted for Mr. [Kevin] McCarthy, [R-Calif.,] to keep him in there, I voted for Mr. [Steve] Scalise [R-La.] I voted repeatedly for [Rep.] Jim Jordan, [R-Ohio,] who would have made an excellent speaker, and we've got to get back to the work of the American people. As the world is in a crisis, around the globe, and wide-open borders, and thousands and thousands of people coming across, quite frankly, World War III could actually begin from some of these conflagrations that we're seeing."

The House has been paralyzed for nearly three weeks, after the ouster of McCarthy from the speakership. Fractured House Republicans have been unable to come together and elect a new speaker, following failed bids by Scalise and Jordan.

Asked about some of the 25 members of the Republican caucus who voted against Jordan on the last ballot, who reportedly expressed interest in cutting deals with Democrats, Babin said that he couldn't support that position.

"Let me just say this: anybody that works with Democrats, that's a nonstarter for me," he said. "I'm 1,000% behind the Republican Party platform, the Constitution, our Judeo-Christian heritage. All of the problems we're seeing today at the hands of the [President] Joe Biden administration and the Democrat Party, which has been taken over by the Squad and the radical Democrats, that is an absolute no-go for me."

"We have the majority, and we need to keep that majority and start working for the American people," he added. "It's high time and believe you me, I'm not happy about the way things have been going."

Commenting on the Biden administration advising Israel to delay its ground invasion of Gaza following the Oct. 7 attack by Palestinian militant group Hamas, Babin launched into a litany of reasons as to why the Jewish state should disregard the advice.

"I'll tell you, taking advice from this administration, which has set the United States up with weakness, it has incentivized dictators around the world to do the things that we're seeing," he said. "Opening our borders up, emboldening Russia to invade Ukraine, the Chinese are licking their lips over Taiwan. We've taken in hundreds and hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans, Cubans from tyrannical communist regimes across our own border."

"Absolutely, I don't think they ought to be listening to a whole lot of advice coming from the Department of Defense and the Biden administration," he continued. "The Afghanistan withdrawal? My goodness! All of these have precipitated these crises that we see today."
