The impeachment investigation against President Donald Trump is "the most irresponsible thing I've seen done in the U.S. House of Representatives," Rep. Brian Mast, R-Fla., told Newsmax TV on Thursday, adding that Nancy Pelosi "should be removed as speaker of the House."
Mast, 39, in his second term, said that Pelosi, D-Calif., "going out there and pressuring all of the members of the majority party to support an inquiry into impeachment, prior to any of them having any knowledge . . . is, hands down, the most irresponsible action that I've ever seen."
He also supported the call by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., to censure Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., for reading a "parody" version of President Trump's July 25 telephone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy during a hearing last week.
"I am on board," Mast told Bachman, saying: "When you look at what's gone on with this process, you say: 'Is it totally partisan? What's going on with this?'"
Mast, an Army Reserve veteran of Afghanistan, said that he was in a hearing of the House Foreign Affairs Committee last Wednesday when Schiff's panel released a redacted unclassified version of the call's transcript, it was "hand-delivered" by aides to Democrats during the session.
Foreign Affairs is one of the six House committees Pelosi said would probe Trump for impeachment.
"I was sitting there, watching all these Democrat members thumb through the actual transcript, reading it for the very first time, even though they had all already gone on record saying that this was something that they supported," Mast said. "Just a very sad situation to see that going on."
The transcript, Mast told Bachman, made clear of no "quid pro quo" between Trump and Zelenskiy.
"To say, 'Do something here and something else will be done for you,' that didn't exist," he said. "It just simply didn't happen.
"If somebody is reading that into it, they are reading what they want to read into it.
"That's not the facts of the situation."
