President Donald Trump is doing his part to make friends with various international leaders, conservative commentator Michael Reagan told Newsmax TV.

Reagan discussed Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's White House visit during an appearance Monday on "Newsmax Prime." Trump's conservative views are on the other side of the political spectrum as Trudeau's.

"It was a good start, and, listen, [it has been] three weeks that Donald Trump has been the president of the United States of America, and he's got to try to find a way to get along with leaders of other countries like Canada, if you will, because Canada is a very good friend of the United States of America," Reagan told host J.D. Hayworth.

"Remember, [former Canadian Prime Minister] Brian Mulroney, it took a while for everybody to warm up to Ronald Reagan. Once they did, they did, and maybe it's going to take a while for everybody to warm up to the tweeter in chief."

Reagan then argued Trump has demonstrated he is willing to work with Democrats during his time in office.

"Look at the meetings he's had where he's invited people actually into the inner sanctum, into the Oval Office," Reagan said. "People who have never been there before in their lives.

"These are members of the left who have been supporters of the left forever, never invited into the White House. I mean he's opening up the doors, he's sitting, he's talking to these people, he's engaging with these people."
