Lt. Chris Olivarez, spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety, warned Newsmax on Wednesday that the Trump administration would likely face challenges in implementing its border and deportation strategy.
"I do believe the current administration is going to face some challenges, not just legal challenges, but also goals from elected officials that are trying to or that want to interfere or impede with Ice agents trying to apprehend criminals," Olivarez told "American Agenda."
"I think, you know," he added, "Tom Homan has made it very clear, the administration has made it very clear: they wanted to prioritize public safety and national security threats."
"We cannot, you know, just ignore the laws because of preference. We have to enforce the laws. And that's what this administration is doing. And I do believe they will carry out their responsibility, and that is to ensure the safety and security of these communities."
