Amid Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi's rejection of "unwarranted accusations" from President Donald Trump's address to the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday, Asian affairs expert and Daily Beast columnist Gordon Chang told Newsmax TV the president is "absolutely correct" on China's election meddling campaign.
"What the president said was absolutely correct: The Chinese are trying to meddle," Chang told "America Talks Live." "They don't meddle in the same way Russians do – so, for instance, going into social media – but they do have a broad influence campaign to try to change American opinions.
"They've had that campaign for decades. They've intensified it over the last seven or eight years."

President Trump pointedly rebuked China's attempts to meddle in this November's elections to try to defeat Republicans, who China has claimed are "holding a knife to our neck" amid escalating tariffs in a trade war.
Chang told hosts Miranda Khan and John Cardillo that China's meddling efforts are misguided because they are going to help elect Democrats who are going to be equally tough on Chinese trade.
"Clearly, the Chinese are trying to influence the United States," Chang, author of "Nuclear Showdown: North Korea Takes on the World," said. "This, I think, is not productive for them, largely because – even if they succeed, and I don't think that they will – but even if the Chinese succeed, they're going to get Democrats more pro-Trump on trade than the Republicans that they replace.
"This is not smart policy on the part of Beijing."
