Anthony Scaramucci's crusade to oust President Donald Trump has left the now-critical former backer a "general without an army," according to Newsmax CEO Christopher Ruddy.
"I can't figure out Anthony," Ruddy told "Newsmax Now" host John Bachman on Thursday night.
Ruddy rejected Scaramucci's claim people close to the president "really hate him."
"Well, I think people close to Donald Trump love him," Ruddy said. "They like him. They think he's a great person. I know his friends. He has friends that go back to childhood that are still friends of his.
"This is a guy that had tremendous friendships and loyalty through the years."
"At the end of the day the president's record is going to speak for itself," Ruddy added.
"Anthony can say anything he wants."
Ruddy noted Scaramucci had been an early and strong supporter of Trump's who had not been treated nicely by White House staff.
He said Scaramucci's defection was "not a good thing" for the president and his one-time supporter could be "formidable," noting his strong TV skills.
Ruddy would not ascribe a motive for Scaramucci's change of heart.
But he was adamant that claims the president is a racist are unfounded.
"When he says the president is a racist, I know he knows that that's not true," Ruddy said.
"There's just no evidence of that."
