Rep. Doug Collins, R-Ga., says he has a lot of frustrations with how GOP secretary of state Brad Raffensperger has handled the 2020 presidential election.
Raffensperger on Wednesday announced a manual recount of all presidential ballots in Georgia as Joe Biden leads in the state by just over 14,000 votes out of nearly 5 million counted.
“One of the things we have got to start talking about is the fact in Georgia you have several problems. No. 1 is that you don’t have voter ID on the actual absentee ballot itself so once its separated from the envelope you don’t know where that vote is, whether it was a valid or invalid or if it gets put into the system then you can’t trace it because no voter ID on it," Collins told host John Bachman Thursday during an appearance on Newsmax TV’s "John Bachman Now."
“No. 2 we gave away the signature verifications in many ways when the secretary of state put together a consent decree with the Democrats, Stacey Abrams’ group, that really, in essence, gutted our verification process. That’s also got to be readdressed as well.”
Last year, state lawmakers passed legislation that virtually eliminated a rule that signatures on voter registration cards had to be matched to other records.
Collins is leading President Donald Trump’s recount team in Georgia. Unlike Republican Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler, who both face Jan. 5 runoffs to determine which party controls the U.S. Senate, he has not called for Raffensperger’s resignation.
