National Review columnist Andy McCarthy told Newsmax TV on Thursday former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn would be "out of [his] mind" to testify before Congress on any alleged ties to Russia.
"If I were his lawyer, and I were told that he was under investigation in Virginia, and that he was the subject of a criminal investigation, I would tell him, 'You'd be out of your mind to go testify,'" McCarthy, a contributing editor to the magazine, told Newsmax TV's Steve Malzberg.
"It doesn't mean that he's guilty of anything, but I assume what the lawyer will tell the committee is that if they insist on making him appear, he will assert his Fifth Amendment privilege.
"Under the circumstances, he can't afford not to."
