Rep. McClintock to Newsmax TV: Gov. Shutdowns 'Most Self-Destructive Folly' to Economy

The extended lockdown orders around the United States in response to the coronavirus pandemic will go down as the "most self-destructive folly" that the government has ever committed against Americans, Rep. Tom McClintock, R-Calif.,  told Newsmax TV.

"Four million people have lost their jobs just in our state alone ... this is a tragedy of unprecedented proportions, and it's all self-inflicted," McClintock told Monday's "The Chris Salcedo Show."

"I think it will go down in our nation's history as the most self-destructive folly ever pursued by a government," McClintock said.

McClintock said the shutdowns will only delay the spread of the virus and aren't worth the negative economic impact they brought to his state of California or anywhere else.

"Jobs that were temporarily lost are becoming permanently lost," McClintock said. "Yes, it [shutdown] can slow the spread of disease but it won't stop it."
