ForAmerica's David Bozell: GOP Deserves Better Leadership

By    |   Monday, 20 January 2014 07:03 PM EST

Republicans deserve better leadership from their party, says David Bozell, executive director of the conservative advocacy group ForAmerica.

"Republicans and self-identified conservatives, independents, center-right people, tea party — everyone really under this tent deserves better leadership than what we're being provided by the upper echelons of the Republican Party, particularly in the House and in the Senate," Bozell told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

He said the recent passing of a bipartisan budget deal, which tea party groups opposed, is a major example.

"These guys negotiated a deal behind closed doors, they rushed it through the floor. They gave basically their members about 24 hours to vote on it or to even look at it," he said Monday.

"Guaranteed, your representative, anyone's representative, had no idea what's in this trillion-dollar spending bill, and 71 percent of House Republicans decided what the heck, we're just going to vote for it anyway."

Bozell said Republicans are now fronting a "Democrat-light vision."

"The conservative agenda simply is not going to get advanced. This trillion-dollar spending bill was the final corner nail in that coffin," he said.

"These guys just make no bones that they're willing to spend as much money as they possibly can find, of our money, and they can't even make the sale as to why they want to do it.

"They can't even defend it, and they can't even be bothered to read the legislation."
