Donald Trump won the presidency on Tuesday because "people voted for Trump, not against Hillary Clinton," political strategist Dick Morris told Newsmax TV on Wednesday.
Morris is the co-author of the new book, "Armageddon: How Trump Can Beat Hillary," (Humanix) with Eileen McGann, available on B+N and Amazon.
When FBI Director James Comey announced that he was investigating newly discovered emails from Clinton's private server, "we expected Hillary's numbers to crash," Morris told "Newsmax Prime" host J.D. Hayworth. "They didn't.
"When he announced the investigation was now off again, we expected her to soar. She didn't.
"Instead, what happened was over the last three weeks came a sudden and rapid, wildfire-like growth in Trump's support from blue-collar men.
"Three weeks out, he led high-school graduate whites by 16 points, then two weeks out by 30 points, then one week out by 40 points — and he won them by 47 points.
"That trend had nothing to do with growing negatives on Hillary," Morris said. "It had to do with Trump positives that began really with his Gettysburg speech on Oct. 22.
"That really has to be called the turning point of the campaign."
