Dick Morris to Newsmax: GOP Must Prepare for Michelle Obama Run

By    |   Saturday, 27 January 2024 07:00 PM EST

In a Saturday interview with Newsmax, Dick Morris, adviser to former President Donald Trump, expressed concerns about a potential surprise Democrat nominee switch involving former first lady Michelle Obama.

Morris, who has been vocal about Trump's likely nomination, stated on "Saturday Report," "I'm worried about Michelle Obama. I think as it becomes increasingly inevitable that Trump will be the nominee ... Democrats are not going to accept that. They're going to pull a switch, and they're going to put Michelle in."

Morris emphasized the need for Republicans to be prepared for such a scenario "so that when she comes in, she is not the great hope, but instead the great disappointment."

Regarding Trump's portrayal of former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley as a globalist, Morris supported the strategy, stating, "It's sticking, and it's the right path." He suggested that Haley should exit the race, especially considering her polling in her home state.

Morris highlighted the similarity of delusion between Haley's claims of victory in the Iowa and New Hampshire primaries and the economic prosperity narrative pushed by the Biden administration.

"She got clobbered," he said.

Despite what he deemed Haley's unfavorable position in South Carolina, Morris noted her reluctance to withdraw from the race. Addressing Haley's potential knockout in South Carolina, Morris stated, "She doesn't have a prayer. She's behind by 58[%] to 31[%] — 27 points. ... For her to lose South Carolina by this kind of margin is surely a knockout blow."

When asked about Haley's reaction to a poor performance in South Carolina, Morris commented, "She has to [concede]. Her whole campaign is based on fierce anti-Trump people ... who funded her after she got killed in New Hampshire."

Morris expressed doubt that Haley could recover from a significant loss in South Carolina, given the nature of her donor base.
