Dick Morris: Trump Won; Cruz and Rubio Battled for No. 2

By    |   Friday, 15 January 2016 12:35 AM EST

Donald Trump won the sixth Republican presidential debate Thursday — but the real battle was between Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz "because Rubio is definitely trying to get into second place," political strategist Dick Morris told Newsmax TV.

"Rubio and Cruz believe in their heart of hearts that whoever gets into a two-way race with Trump, Trump is going to win," Morris told host J.D. Hayworth on the "Newsmax TV Post-Debate Special" in an interview. "Their goal is to finish second.

"Rubio tried aggressively to defeat Cruz with a variety of shots — and I think he failed totally."

He added that Trump "clearly showed himself to be the dominant figure" because the billionaire "clearly articulated the broad policies in an innovative and captivating way."

And, as such, Trump "will hold on to his vote chair for that," Morris said.
