Dick Morris: GOP Must Keep Pounding Hillary's Credibility

By    |   Tuesday, 14 July 2015 05:43 PM EDT

The Republican Party's best move against Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton is to continue hitting her on her credibility, former Clinton adviser and Newsmax contributor Dick Morris tells Newsmax TV.

Clinton has not lived the life of an average American since she was in her late 20s during her days as first lady of Arkansas and Rose Law Firm partner, Morris said Tuesday on "The Hard Line." She can't sell it that she does relate to regular Americans, he said, so she has to rely on people voting for her based on her policies or on Democratic Party loyalty.

"She said in the interview, 'I trust the American people.' That's the exact opposite of the truth," Morris said. "She has no trust in the American people, and she believes strongly that if we ever saw who she really is, we'd never vote for her – and she's got a point."

The best way to get rid of that facade, according to Morris: "Amputate her tongue."

Opponents can do that by pointing out all of the previous positions she has flip-flopped on.

"You show that when Hillary takes a position on something, it doesn't mean anything," he said. "It's not worth the price of the paper the promise is written on … she used to be for free trade and now she's against it, she used to be against gay marriage and now she's for it."

Eventually, Clinton will get to the point President Richard Nixon did where no one believed anything he said, Morris argued. "When that happens with a politician, it's the equivalent of removing a fighter's gloves."

When it comes to Clinton's chief rival so far in the Democratic primaries, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, her camp can't attack him, but must point out that he can't win a general election. Attacking his positions would serve only to anger parts of the Democratic electorate who agree with Sanders' leftist ideology, Morris said.

The Obama administration has given up on an Elizabeth Warren candidacy and is now relying on Vice President Joe Biden, who has not announced whether he will run.

Biden, Morris said, is a "true believer" in Obama's policies and would be the top choice of the president to carry on his policies. The White House can't take Clinton's momentum on directly, so must counter with leaks, he said.

"If you leak a lot of material to the media, truth, and they then run that truth, and Hillary tries to hide from it and deny it and gets caught in all of these lies, her credibility atrophies and if you have somebody like Sanders pushing on her, pushing on her, pushing on her, there'll be an increasing market for somebody who's a true believer in Obama's policies like Biden," he said.
