Donald Trump to Newsmax: US Sunk to 'Lowest Point' Under Biden

By    |   Monday, 13 January 2025 08:44 PM EST

President-elect Donald Trump told Newsmax on Monday that foreign policy under President Joe Biden took the country to its "lowest point" in history, adding that the global crises he's inheriting from Biden could not "have been any worse."

Trump joined "Rob Schmitt Tonight" in a wide-ranging interview, in part to react to Biden's boasts earlier in the day that the country and its alliances are stronger than they were four years ago.

"Well, look, I don't want to insult people when they're on their way out, finally. You thought this day would never arrive," Trump said but ultimately called Biden's foreign policy "terrible."

"We wouldn't have had any wars. You wouldn't have had Russia-Ukraine. We shouldn't have ever had Israel; Israel would not have been attacked by Iran, which because ultimately, it was Iran that did it," said Trump, who will be sworn in next Monday. "But when you look at what happened during this last four-year period, I think it was the lowest point in the history of our country. It's been so bad.

"And I watched what he said, and he's trying to make good of everything, like he talks about Afghanistan. Well, we were moving out, too, but it would have been with dignity and grace and strength," Trump added. "And you know what he did with the airplane and the people falling off the plane, and the craziness, and 13 dead soldiers, and leaving billions and billions of dollars' worth of equipment in the hands of the Taliban. It's just, you know, it just couldn't have been any worse than that."

Biden bragged about his foreign policy accomplishments in a speech at the State Department, during which he said his foreign policy team was the best ever assembled in U.S. presidential history.

Just the opposite, Trump said. The bumbling and incompetence of the Afghanistan withdrawal, most acutely, led to more global crises, he said.

"And I think probably that's why [Russian President Vladimir] Putin invaded; when he saw the incompetence of [Gen. Mark] Milley and these people, he said, 'Wow, these people are not so good. We're going to go and do the invasion of Ukraine.' I really think that was a big, a big factor," Trump said. "Now it's been a terrible four years."
