Donald Trump's new 5-point lead in the crucial battleground state of Ohio is "very significant" — and could presage a growing lead nationwide for the GOP nominee, pollster John Zogby told Newsmax TV on Wednesday.
"Ohio is extremely important" to Trump and rival Hillary Clinton, but "particularly to Donald Trump," the senior partner at John Zogby Strategies and author of "We Are Many, We Are One" said on Wednesday's "The Steve Malzberg Show."
"A lead in Ohio puts something into his column that others had projected might not be there. This race has been razor thin in Ohio. If he's coming up with a 5-point lead, that's very significant."
Zogby told "Newsmax Prime" host J.D. Hayworth he expects Trump's lead will keep growing.
"We'll know for certain in the Thursday and Friday batches of polling," he said, adding Clintons support is stuck at "42-43 percent."
"Whether or not that's going to be enough to win and win in enough states remains to be seen. I don't think so."

Zogby also is impressed by the suggestion if the Democratic National Committee had to pick a replacement candidate for Clinton as a "backup plan," it could choose Michelle Obama.
"Democrats cannot possibly come up with a better candidate," he said. "That should make the Trump people shake in their shoes. . . . Remember, Barack Obama would beat Trump — at least in one poll — by 13, 14 points. So, Michelle is even more popular."
